Great Friday-Barn Dance

When I hear Good Friday mentioned the first thing that springs to my mind is bag packs of BYOB, a mystery bus journey with great friends and a day/night full of laughing.

This year was my third year to the Good Friday anti-prohibition BYOB themed mini festival Barn Dance.
In 2012 it was a pretty low key event in a circus tent and marquee in Kildare. Last year it was a slightly bigger but still intimate affair in Glendalough up the Wicklow Mountains. This year the location stayed the same but the scale of the event and awesomeness multiplied tenfold!

The beloved big blue bus, whose home, the Bernard Shaw, was there offering us all a spot on the bus in exchange for the fare and price of a delicious Pizza. There was plenty of other Artisan Dining Experiences available on site too if Pizza wasn’t your thing. Acts such as Jamie Jones, A-SKILLZ, Fish go Deep , Smash Hits etc. were scattered throughout the four stages for Barn lovers to enjoy. We even bumped into the lovely Mark Prendergast from Kodaline. The pamper Palace staff were on hand for all festival heads to tap into their inner child and decorate their faces for the night. Art Installations were scattered through the farm along with comedy and theatre tents.

The weather was sublime when the buses left Dublin at 3 o clock and there was a “sure we’re on our holiday’s” kind of vibe in the air. However this resulted in many festival goers taking inspiration from the previous weeks Coachella Festival pics a little too far (kimonos + hot-pants +gladiator sandals + beaters + Crop tops + Wicklow mountains + nightfall = freezing!!). Which has inspired me to do a piece super soon on “Festival fashion for Irish weather” so you’ll be all set next time. I went for my usual festival favourite - a bomber jacket. It’s the perfect statement piece to pump up and transform an otherwise simple look. I got mine online on Topshop.com last Christmas. I teamed it with some leather shorts, stacks of delicate necklaces and chunky boots on the day. Not so wisely I only brought a light &Other Stories jumper to layer for the night.

It’s the novelty that on the one day of year we as Irish citizens are forbidden to consume alcohol we gather together and rebel like animals up a mountain that cracks me up every time!! It really is the winning formula that sets the atmosphere to this unique event. Check out my personal pics above and below to get a taste of the Great Friday Barn Dance Festival.
Sign up and send is some pics to the Bombers&Blondes email below of your Barn Dance look’s if you were there on the day and I’ll share my favorite looks on our Facebook and Instagram.
